NFL athlete Cre’von LeBlanc returns to his hometown during his team’s (Chicago Bears) bye week to inspire the youth!
It doesn’t matter how you get there—it only matters what you do with the opportunity. That’s exactly what Chicago Bears rookie defensive back Cre’von LeBlanc is demonstrating. LeBlanc went undrafted out of Florida Atlantic University, but signed with the New England Patriots following the draft. After a successful preseason camp, the Patriots made a huge mistake letting go of him. However, only God knew the plan that he had for Cre’von. Now he’s in the same city as NBA star Dwyane Wade.
The Bears, whom I believe had an eye on Cre’von since his days as an Owl, got a chance, to see what he can do first hand during a joint preseason practice along with the Patriots. Cre’von just gets better and better with each game he plays for the Bears. Bringing a spark to the secondary.
Coming into Bye Week, the Bears won their second game of the season, beating the 5-2 Minnesota Vikings 20-10. Although, he may have a week off from his NFL duties, he’s still putting in work by giving back to the community. On November 3, 2016, Cre’von returned to his hometown of West Palm Beach, where he met with the press to get this message across: Silence the critics and embarrass the doubters. Cre wants the kids to know to never give up on plan A, follow your dreams, put in the work, and never listen to those who say it can’t be done.
Evidently, the road wasn’t easy for Cre’von. Like I mentioned before, he went undrafted and got released from the 4x Super Bowl winning champion New England Patriots, but that’s not even the worst thing he endured.
Earlier this year, he joined us on Overtime to talk about his Pro Day, a day where two key figures of his life couldn’t make it. His father passed away, and his oldest brother is incarcerated. That just motivates him even more; he has to let the whole world know about his family name. He has a mom who deserves the world, and she’s here with him every step of the way. A mom who, was, is, and will always be his light in this dark world. If you ask me who he plays for, I would say that little boy who people said he would never amount to anything or the next little boy or girl who’s going through adversity and that people are sleeping on his/her talent.
I read and heard all the negative comments: “Oh he’s too small,” “His backpedal is weak,” “He won’t get drafted,” “He won’t make it,” “He’ll only play a couple seasons,” and “He doesn’t have the size, so he can’t defend the top receivers.” On the contrary, he stopped Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb from getting two touchdowns in Week Seven. When I told you that I heard it all, it was no joke. I used to reply to the negative comments, but it’s not necessary because I believe he’s putting in the work with those hands. He might be 5’10” and 190 pounds, but watch him play. Wherever the ball is, Cre’von is there. He’s going to make them feel the frustration and pain from being slept on, but what’s a testimony without a test?
We talked about days like this at his meet and greet, an event his fan club had put together so he could sign autographs, take pictures, and thank everyone who supported him, prayed for him, and even doubted him on his NFL journey.
Cre, when you make it, you know you have to go back and talk to the kids, right? You are an inspiration; they need someone like you to look up to. “Yes, I know.”
My friends, here’s my message to you, “When the road gets tough, never give up. People will lie about you, doubt you, and even laugh at you. Just go back to the drawing board and reevaluate yourself. There will be plenty of sacrifices you will make, like missing out on events and many friends and family will go left because they WILL be jealous of your success. When you get on a different level, you just have to sit back and observe so see who really changed because then, they’ll say it’s you who is different. Most importantly, turn your dreams into goals because they do come true.”
